Our charity concert which took place on the 17th November 2012 in the Weston Turville Village Hall was a raring sucess!. With performances from pupils of a range of ages - on clarinet, saxophone and piano  - the evening provided a unique opportunity for pupils to perform in front of a paying audience, whilst raising vital funds for charity. It is essential when learning an instrument to also learn the confidence and skills of how to perform in public, as well as performing together in a band.

The concert included many pieces ranging from Beethoven and Bach to Scott Joplin, Gershwin and even James Brown! With prizes donated from local businesses, cakes and refreshments, we were able to raise over £440 towards the charity, as well as lots of Food Bank donations.

Every penny that was raised went to the LightHouse Project Food Bank, which opened in Aylesbury in 2012. The project was started after discovering how people were struggling,  and that many people’s circumstances had change through no fault of their own. Redundancy seems to be on the increase and a lot of individuals and families seem to be experiencing the hardship of the changing economy, and are unable to meet their basic needs. The charity found out through the relationships that were developed through the opening of the LightHouse that people in our community were choosing what bills to pay and what food to buy with the limited money they had; unable to cover all the bills that needed paying and going without the basics [food] in their cupboards.

The charity aims to reach the people who really need the most help and they want to support other organisations in Aylesbury Vale by providing relief for individuals and families who are on a low income or who are receipt of benefits. The charity will also be making deliveries, this will benefit the elderly community and the people with disabilities who can not get to the food bank.

Thanks again to everyone who performed, attended and supported this event!
