Our latest charity concert, which took place on the 16th November 2013 at 6:30pm - was in the beautiful venue of St Mary's Church, Aylesbury. With performers of a range of ages - on clarinet, saxophone and piano  - the evening provided a unique opportunity for pupils to perform in front of a paying audience, whilst raising vital funds for charity. It is essential when learning an instrument to also learn the confidence and skills of how to perform in public, as well as performing together in a band.

The concert included many pieces ranging from Beethoven and Bach to Scott Joplin, Gershwin and even James Brown! Hot and cold refreshments were on sale, as well as homemade cakes and biscuits, plus a raffle with top prizes donated from local businesses supporting the event.

The evening managed to raise £655 for the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity as part of their 25th anniversary, which provides comprehensive care and support, through inpatient and at-home services, for local people and families affected by life-limiting illnesses.

These services include the Florrie’s Children’s Team, Lymphoedema Clinic, Day Hospice and Inpatient Nursing and Community Nursing Specialists - plus more services aimed towards supporting those affected by illness - and their families.

Our special thanks to all my pupils for performing, as well their families for supporting the event. I would also like to thank Keith Dale of Biz Services, as well as Aylesbury Cricket Club for sponsoring the evening - allowing us to donate every penny raised to the Hospice! Our kindest thanks also to the Lighthouse Charity for donating £100 also!
